Gleneagles Chef Scoops Top Award
Martin Carabott from The Gleneagles Resort was the winner of The Skills for
Chefs Competition held in Sheffield on 5 July. Martin made great use of the ingredients provided and made every minute of the one hour allocated to produce a superb dish of "Slow-cooked Blythburgh Pork Fillet,California Prunes and Armagnac Essential Cuisine Jus".
Andrew Bennett MBE ,Chair of Judges commented "Martin used modern techniques to
great effect to produce a perfectly cooked piece of pork,he was a credit to his mentor Scott Scorer at Gleneagles".
Nigel Crane,Managing Director of Essential Cuisine who also judged the competition also heaped on the praise "the standard of the young chefs entering the Skill Chefs Competition is improving every year and Essential Cuisine are delighted to be a sposnor". The competition took place at Sheffield College and the facilities were praised highly. After the competition the chefs attended the Skills for Chefs Conference at The University of Sheffield that featured a stellar line up of Michelin Starred Chefs including Claude Bosi,Glynn Purnell and Theo Randall. Scotland Food & Drink in partnership with NorthLink Ferries, Orkney Quality Food & Drink, Shetland Isles Council and Highlands & Islands Enterprise, is delighted to invite you to an Orkney & Shetland Isles Supplier Showcase on Thursday 16th September 2010.
NorthLink Ferries operates a daily lifeline service to the islands all-year round and has a reputation for the comfort of its vessels and promoting fine island and local mainland Scottish produce.
Join us on board the NorthLink vessel in Aberdeen to learn more about the islands’ exceptional food cultures, meet a wide range of producers and discover new products that may be of interest to your business.
The event will include:
- Overview of Orkney & Shetland Isles food culture and producers
- “Chefs from the Islands ” demonstration of local produce
- Supplier showcase offering the chance to meet producers, learn about their business and taste their products
- Networking lunch featuring island produce
Both Orkney and Shetland are renowned for their unique food & drink products. With its outstanding natural environment, Shetland boasts specialities such as lamb and mutton (with Protected Designation of Origin status), seafood and fish. Similarly, Orkney is famed for its quality been, shellfish, cheese and oatcakes amongst many other products.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to explore special products from the islands and build relationships with new suppliers. We are bringing the best of Orkney and Shetland to you in Aberdeen under one roof, saving you time and money. The event is FREE.
